Alfred Deakin Lecture Series 2008
Date: June 6
Location: BMW Edge, Federation Square, Melbourne
Running Man is a lecture/performance/demonstration delivered by not yet it's difficult (NYID) Artistic Director, David Pledger on an idea he has for an artwork he is making.
The basis of the artwork is a research question: what happens in the brain when the body is subjected to the stress of physical endurance? The research will be placed in the historical context of acting and physical performance and how it relates to broader contexts of sport and science, and the interrelated concept of being 'in the zone'.
Running Man will include the demonstration of a methodology to record and map the data of the body's changing physical state and deliver it into a real-time interactive experience. Presentational media may include X-rays, video recordings of medical procedures, interviews and some running.
